Introduction to Patient Care & Daily Support
Learn the CNA role within the healthcare team, focusing on professionalism, empathy, and patient rights. Practice assisting with daily living activities — bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, toileting, and mobility. Understand body mechanics for safe patient handling and how to maintain comfort, dignity, and privacy in all care interactions.
Weeks 3–4
Vital Signs, Infection Control & Clinical Prep
Gain proficiency in measuring and recording vital signs: temperature (oral, axillary, tympanic), blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate. Study infection control principles including hand hygiene, PPE, universal precautions, bloodborne pathogen safety, and proper disposal of hazardous waste. Prepare exam rooms, maintain clean environments, and assist with patient intake and basic chart documentation.
Weeks 5–6
Emergency Response & Specialized Care Skills
Train in recognizing and responding to emergencies, including CPR, choking, syncope, and fall incidents. Learn OSHA safety guidelines, workplace hazard prevention, and emergency protocols. Develop skills for supporting patients with chronic conditions, dementia, or mobility limitations, as well as assisting with post-procedure and rehabilitation care.
Weeks 7–8
Hands-On Clinical Practice & Career Preparation
Apply skills in a supervised clinical environment, performing tasks like patient transfers, positioning, specimen collection assistance, and maintaining safety in care areas. Practice communication and documentation using SOAP notes and EMR systems. Conclude with career readiness — resume writing, mock interviews, and professional workplace conduct.
